Jill Hendry – Practice Owner

MCSP HPC . Grad.Dip.Phys

 

Jill established the physiotherapy clinic at Cannons Health Club City in 1990 and rebranded it physio in the city in 2000. In 2001 she opened her first satellite clinic at Cannons Health Club Bloomsbury, followed in 2002 by clinics in Twickenham, Willesden and Wimbledon. 2003 saw the opening of the full time complementary health clinic in the West End and another physiotherapy clinic inside the new development Paddington Basin.

2004 saw the opening of our clinic in Cheam and of our clinic at the Reebok Sports Club Canary Wharf named physio on the wharf. You can visit the website: www.physioonthewharf.co.uk.

Jill qualified in 1982 from Kings College Hospital London, and worked for the N.H.S. at King's,the Middlesex Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bath Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and St Bartholomews Hospital, before moving to the private sector at London Bridge Hospital and then setting up the clinic at Cannons Health Club in April 1990.

Jill specialises in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and has a special interest in treating back and neck problems and sports rehabilitation including work in the gym, hydrotherapy and muscle imbalance correction.

Jill has a post graduate hydrotherapy diploma gained whilst working in Bath where she was providing hydrotherapy and clinic treatments to all types of rheumatic disorders, especially rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.

Jill has experience in the field of women's health and particularly pregnancy related aches and pains. She is a qualified aerobics instructor. Jill was a member of the British Women's Gymnastics Squad and is still a keep fit enthusiast using the gym, swimming and running regularly.

 

 

Physiotherapists

 

 

Helen Smith - Clinical Manager
BSc(Hons) MCSP HPC

 

Helen is the physiotherapy Clinical Manager at the City clinic. She has been a qualified physiotherapist since 1995.

Initially working in the NHS at large teaching hospitals including The Royal London and Guys. She has worked in the private sector since joining us in 2000 and holds postgraduate diplomas in acupuncture, sports injuries and hydrotherapy.

 

Her main interests are knees, necks, soft tissue and sports injuries. Helen was a past British international runner and swimmer and has run several London marathons.

 

She regularly trains and competes in triathlons throughout the UK. Helen qualified to represent Great Britain in the 2003 Triathlon World Championships and the 2004 Duathlon World Championships in Belgium.

 

Helen won the London Triathlon in her age category and has competed for Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championships 2005 and 2006. She came 4th in her age group at the 2007 Championships for Great Britain and achieved her first Ironman in Austria 2008 where she came 5th in her age category.

 

 

Julie Gear – Senior Physiotherapist
BPhty MCSP HPC

 

Julie graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand and has been working in private practice since then. Before joining us Julie has worked at a professional sports centre in France, and at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in South London.

 

Julie holds a post-graduate certificate in ergonomics and is a registered Pilates instructor with the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute. She is also a qualified acupuncturist having studied both in the UK and in China.

 

Julie combines her training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Intra-Muscular Stimulation with traditional physiotherapy treatment for effective results.

 

Julie enjoys treating both acute and chronic spinal and joint injuries as well as sports injuries and has treated a number of sporting teams including the England Men's Volleyball team. She was a county representative in Equestrian, Netball and Athletics.

 

She now uses the gym regularly to keep fit and plays a variety of sports.

 

 

Greg Savides – Senior Physiotherapist
BSc(Hons) MCSP HPC

 

Greg graduated from the University of the Witwatersand, South Africa in 1994.

 

Since qualifying he has worked in various Sports related private Clinics. Over the years Greg has been involved with a number of sporting teams including rugby, cricket, and field hockey.

 

Besides his enthusiasm for sports related injuries, he has a keen interest in treating acute and chronic spinal injuries. Greg joined our team in January 2003. He is a keen team sportsman and marathon runner, and also enjoys hobbies such as scuba diving and ocean sailing. Greg competed in the 2006 Iron Man in Austria.

 

 

Adam Mcdonald

Adam McDonald – Senior Physiotherapist

BSc(Hons) MCSP HPC

 

Adam graduated from AUT university in 2007 with aBHScin Physiotherapy. For the past 4 years Adam has worked in well establised private physiotherapy clinics in New Zealand, with a focus on treatment and rehabilitation for elite and novice athletes.


Adam has worked with a range of professional sports teams including national and regional rugby league and rugby union,netball and individual athletes.He is passionate about physiotherapy,and enjoys treating acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions with a focus on getting people to return to their normal daily and sporting activities.He has also taken particular interest in manual therapy techniques including the Mulligans technique and the McKenzie method.


Adam is enthusiastic about remaining fit and active, he has participated in a number of endurance events and regularly attends the gym. He has played rugby for his entire life and is looking forward to playing in the local London competition for the upcoming season

Cristina is a qualified Alexander Technique teacher who has experience with both individuals and groups from all walks of life.

She specializes in one-to-one sessions with clients in Central London.

Denzil Trebilcock

B.Sc. (Hons), MChS

 

Denzil studied Podiatric Medicine at the London Foot Hospital, University College London, graduating with a BSc. (Hons) in 2004.

 

After graduating he worked for the NHS in Lambeth PCT for 5 years, where he was able to gain all round clinical experience in a diagnosing and treating a variety of foot pathologies.

 

Denzil worked within a high risk Diabetic Centres both at King’s College Hospital and St Thomas’ treating critical care patients. In the last 2 years Denzil became the Lambeth PCT department lead for the Musculoskeletal Foot and Ankle centre.

 

Denzil has developed a keen interest in sports related foot problems and injuries. He has worked in Harley Street for several years treating complex problems for a wide range of athletic disciplines. However, he also enjoys all clinical aspects of Podiatry including nail surgery and routine chiropody.

 

Denzil continues to develop his skills, regularly attending seminars and networking with his peers both locally and nationally.

 

 

Massage Therapists

 

 

Mark Edmonds - Sports Massage Therapist

 

Mark qualified in Sports Massage with Honors at the London School of Sports Massage in 1991. When Mark left school in 1988 he stared concentrating on the new and exciting sport of triathlon.

 

Formerly a County Level swimmer with Romford Town S.C. he started to make the transition into a tri-athlete.

 

Having won a National Age Group gold medal at the British Junior Championships in 1987 he soon began to progress into the senior ranks.

 

By 1989 he had made his first G.B. Junior International triathlon in Geneva, Switzerland. Over the next 8 years he picked up 3 senior British Championships medals (2 silver, 1 bronze) and won the British Grand Prix Series outright for 3 consecutive years ('92-'94). He also represented Great Britain on over a dozen occasions at European and World Championships to date.

 

In 1995 he passed a YMCA Fitness Trainer qualification.

 

For the past 4 years Mark's spare time has been taken up by training for the Ironman Triathlon. In 2007, the Austria Ironman was his 7th Ironman event!

 

 

Brian Swanton - Sports Massage Therapist

 

Brian trained at St Mary’s University, Twickenham in sports & remedial massage, with further specialization in sports injuries and sports therapy.

 

He is an experienced therapist having worked with various elite athletes at international level. Brian was a Great Britain champion in Irish dance and held a World ranking of No.3. He turned professional in 1996 performing with Riverdance - The Show.

 

He has worked in dance and theatre touring companies as a sports massage therapist and in sports injury clinics in London since 2002.

 

 

Alex Iavu - Sports Massage Therapist

Alex started practicing Martial Arts (Taekwondo ITF) at an early age and in his 17 years of practice he became a multiple national champion. From 2001 until 2007, he was selected in the Romanian National Taekwondo Team. During these years he has won multiple international competitions becoming European and World Champion at different categories and in 2005 obtained a Black Belt with 2nd degree. 

 

His sports experience has led him to have a better understanding of the different stresses and tensions that may be placed upon the body during a competition and training. Since then he has become increasingly interested in sports injuries and has decided to develop his skills in Physiotherapy and Sports & Remedial Massage.

 

Studying Physiotherapy at Physical Education and Sports University in Romania (2004-2008) has helped him to improve his knowledge about sports and physiotherapy and has also introduced him to Sports and Remedial Massage.

 

In 2006 he started working as a sports massage therapist and continued learning and developing his knowledge into complementary massage types and techniques. At the moment, he is fully qualified in Sports and Remedial Massage, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Lymphatic Drainage, Reflexology, Cellulite Breakdown, Aromatherapy and Deep Tissue. During his training and working years as a massage therapist he has collaborated with several massage centres, clinics and with two Taekwondo clubs treating and working with a wide range of clients from athletes to disabled persons with different needs and problems.
